Elections 2019 have come and gone, but the burdens and challenges faced by the South African majority remain. Their vote for the ruling party in particular, was an expression of hope and belief that their win will change their lot. Today I was particularly touched by a woman from one of the informal settlements in Pretoria. She was celebrating the ANC’s imminent victory of the 2019 elections, yet her hardship underscored by the wheelbarrow she used to wheel bucket loads of water to her home laid bare. However, all this was eclipsed by her nonchalant and cheerful nature.
Instead of complaining, she simply pleaded with the ANC to deliver water and electricity to those who still do not have these basic human rights like her.
These are stories which should jerk the ANC into action as soon as they take office. This will be a befitting gesture of appreciation to ordinary South Africans, in particular the poor and destitute who have voted for them. Mr President I hope you too saw her on your TV screen and that you will remember that she represents those who are desperate for your intervention. Good luck to you and your administration as you roll out service delivery faster than it ever was before.
